Maharashtra Construction Workers Housing Scheme (Rural) – Details

The scheme benefits will be available to all eligible construction laborers who meet the specified eligibility criteria. Under the Construction Workers Housing Scheme (Rural) in Maharashtra, the houses will have a carpet area of 269 sq. ft. While beneficiaries have the option to build larger houses, they will need to bear the additional costs themselves.

According to official reports from the labor department, there are approximately 26 lakh construction workers in the state, with around 12.5 lakh of them registered with MBOCWWB. Among the registered workers, about 4 lakh reside in rural areas and do not own a pucca house. The state government has now invited applications from these construction workers.

After thorough verification of documents, the state government will approve these applications. It is expected that the construction of these homes will be completed within 6 to 8 months. Additionally, some construction workers do not have their own land, so the government is considering providing Rs. 50,000 to assist in purchasing land for building a house.

However, the Maharashtra Construction Workers Federation (MCWF) considers the financial assistance inadequate and believes it will be challenging for workers to build houses with such limited funds. The state government is urged to increase the total sum to ensure that a larger number of construction workers can benefit from the Atal Construction Workers Awas Yojana (Rural) 2023.
