Sabooj Sathi Scheme 2023

Within the Chief Minister's prominent Sabooj Sathi Scheme, approximately 84 lakh students have received bicycles for their school commute. This remarkable initiative was honored with the esteemed World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) award, bestowed by the United Nations. For the current fiscal year, the West Bengal state government initially planned to distribute 10 lakh bicycles to students. However, responding to the need, CM Mamata Banerjee has directed the relevant officials to double this allocation.

Objectives of WB Sabooj Sathi Scheme 2023

The main objective of Sabooj Sathi Scheme is to enhance student access to secondary education. The Sabuj Sathi Scheme is further expected to:

  • Invcrease retention in schools,
  • Encourage students to take up higher studies,
  • Inculcate sense of confidence among the girl students by promoting mobility,
  • Promote environment-friendly and healthy means of transportation.

The objectives are aligned with four Sustainable Goals of agenda 2030. These are SDG3: Good Health & Well-being, SDG4: Quality Education, SDG5: Gender Equality and SDG13: Climate actions.

Present Status for WB Sabuj Sathi Scheme

Since 2015, more than 82 lakh students have received bicycles under the scheme. Around 1 crore students are being covered. CM Mamata Banerjee launched Sabooj Sathi Scheme which reflects her desire to see young students empowered to achieve new feats in the future through the bicycles. She also created the scheme logo which is firmly attached in the basket in front of the bicycle. Hon’ble CM flagged off the distribution in October 2015 from Paschim Medinipur.

STEP 4: In the School Record page, select the district, block, school, phase, class and click at the “Search a Beneficiary” tab to track the bi-cycle distribution status through online mode.

Complaint Form for Sabooj Sathi

All the applicants can submit any grievance related to Sabooj Sathi by clicking at the “Please Submit Any Grievance related to Sabooj Sathi” link under “Quick Links” section or directly click https://wbsaboojsathi.gov.in/v2/grievance_form.php. List of Students for WB Sabooj Sathi Scheme

Following the reopening of schools in West Bengal, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has issued instructions to officials to compile lists of eligible students and ensure the equitable distribution of bicycles to all deserving beneficiaries. The Backward Class Welfare Department oversees the distribution of bicycles, and they have already initiated the tendering process to procure an initial 10 lakh bicycles.

In response to the Chief Minister's directive to expand the initiative, the West Bengal government is set to release another tender for the acquisition of an additional 10 lakh bicycles. The WB Sabooj Sathi Scheme 2023 has garnered recognition at both regional and national levels for its effectiveness. This acknowledgment is substantiated by West Bengal's position at the forefront of states with the lowest school dropout rates, as per the Annual Status of Education Report (ASER) 2020.

A bicycle in a poor family in rural West Bengal helps will meet many other purposes other than using it as comfortable and eco-friendly transport means to go to school. It is expected that the distribution of 20 lakh bicycles will result in electoral dividend favouring the ruling party.
